KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — Earlier this month, Knoxville police officers found an 84-year-old woman dead during a welfare check and discovered that she had been dead for months while interviewing her nephew who also lived at the home, according to an incident report.
On January 6, a Knoxville Police Department officer served a welfare check on Macedonia Lane in East Knoxville after someone who knew the woman and said they had not seen or heard from her since Thanksgiving. The caller told the 911 dispatcher that the woman also lived with her nephew, according to the report.
When the officer arrived, they noticed that the house appeared to be completely dark and all but a few windows were covered. In one window at the front of the home, the officer noticed a “large amount of dead flies” inside the window panel.
Behind the home, the officer also wrote in the report that they noticed a brick with a broken window, prompting them to call for more officers.
