Knoxville has emerged from underneath the layers of snow and ice brought by the record-breaking snowstorm earlier this month, but should we be bracing for another snow event before spring flowers bloom?
“That’s always the hard thing (to predict),” National Weather Service meteorologist Nathan Wellington told Knox News Jan. 30.
“We still have a good chunk of winter to go through, so there’s always an opportunity for additional snow. It’s just hard to say if or when we’ll see any,” he continued.
Only rain showers are in the Knoxville area forecast for the next week. And East Tennessee should expect normal to slightly above normal precipitation and normal temperatures through April according to the Climate Prediction Center.
Winter doesn’t officially end until March 19, which does leave a possibility for more snow to flutter down in Knoxville. It likely won’t be enough to cripple the city again, though.
“It’s rare to have the largest storm in almost 30 years. It’s very rare to have two of them in the same winter,” Wellington noted.
