Newport man killed in dump truck crash

DANDRIDGE β€” A Newport man was killed when the dump truck he was driving crashed due to ice on the roadway.

A preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) indicates that Marty Teague, 50, was driving a 1996 Volvo dump truck on Sandy Ridge Road in Dandridge at 9 a.m. on Jan. 23. The report states that ice on the roadway caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the right side of the road then rolled over. The truck stopped with its cab leaning against a tree.

β€œThe driver was attempting to exit the vehicle as it left the roadway and was recovered from underneath the vehicle,” the report states.

Teague is survived by his wife, Gail Teague, and his mother, Janette Teague. He is also survived by two daughters, Brittany Shults and Destiny Daniels, and two grandchildren.

Visitation preceded the funeral service on Friday, Jan. 27. Burial was Saturday, Jan. 28, in the Ball and Teague Family Cemetery. Manes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
