KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville woman died Saturday after she was struck by a bullet from a handgun that was discharged in a neighboring apartment. A police investigation remains ongoing.
Officers responded to an apartment complex on Saint Francis Way just before 10 p.m. after a woman had been transported UT Medical Center.
One dead after shooting on Middlebrook Pike
Medical personnel determined that 40-year-old Cynthia Brown had been shot. She was pronounced dead around 1:45 a.m. Sunday.
According to a KPD press release, Brown had been struck by a bullet that had allegedly been fired from a handgun in an adjacent apartment. The person suspected of firing the round was detained and questioned by Homicide Unit detectives.
“The KPD remains in contact with the Knox County District Attorney’s Office, who will make a determination regarding charges and prosecution,” a police spokesperson said in a release.
