Former boss shot at Knoxville auto center now identified

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A police report following a fatal shooting on Middlebrook Pike is revealing more details about the relationship between the suspect and victim.

On Monday, February 5, Knoxville Police officers responded to the NAPA AutoCare Center for a report of a shooting. On scene, they found the victim, who has now been identified as Aaron Russell, 29, of Knoxville . He had been shot at least once in the fenced-in area behind the business. The suspect was later identified as Daniel Arwood, 38 . He has been charged with first-degree murder.

According to a narrative from the police, Arwood was an ex-employee of the business, but he had been using a room at the warehouse as a residence. According to the report, the victim reportedly fired Arwood last week, and he was due to leave the warehouse on Feb. 5.

Police said that around 5:47 a.m., a witness saw the victim and Arwood talking in the parking lot. The report claims they heard the victim scream before Arwood shot him with a shotgun. The witness hid and called 911 before hearing another gunshot. Police said Arwood then fled the scene.
