Bald eagle known for performing at Dollywood dies

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The American Eagle Foundation shared that a bald eagle named America has died.

The foundation said that the bird’s quality of life took a sharp decline due to an inflammation of the heart, and the decision was made to “peacefully euthanize” him.

Originally from Alaska, America was part of Tennessee’s bald eagle reintroduction program. However, a gunshot wound made it hard for him to live in the wild, and the foundation took him under its wing and cared for him.

America was a frequent performer in Dollywood’s Wings of America Show, showing guests high-flying tricks and meeting them after the shows.

“America’s contributions to educational outreach are too numerous to list. During his 35 years, America touched the hearts of countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of experiencing his majestic presence up close,” wrote the Foundation on Facebook.
