KFD: Left behind item leads to discovery of house fire

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — Two people are safe after a man discovered his home was on fire while retuning to get an item left behind Wednesday morning, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.

KFD reported that crews were sent to the house on the 3800 block of Garden Drive just after 11 a.m. The person who called 911 told the operator that a bedroom was on fire and he could see flames, the fire department said.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found smoke outside the home and quickly knocked down the flames from inside the home.

The fire was discovered when a man who lived in the home left for work but returned to get an item, the fire department said, adding that the home had no smoke alarms.

Knoxville Fire Department said two people and one dog live in the home, and no injuries were reported. The house had significant fire, smoke and water damage.
