THP cruisers collide in Knoxville, no injuries reported

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Two Tennessee Highway Patrol cruisers collided late Monday in Knoxville, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

A THP spokesperson said both units were en route to assist another trooper who was in pursuit of an armed carjacking suspect. According to a preliminary report, a cruiser was traveling on Woodland Avenue when it struck from the left side at the Cornelia Street intersection.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage.

The third trooper had been in pursuit of a suspect in the armed carjacking that occurred in the early hours of Monday morning near the University of Tennessee campus . The THP spokesperson said the pursuit ended after the trooper lost contact with the suspect’s vehicle.
