The Newport Rescue Squad (NRS) Search and Rescue, Special Operations Capable (SARSOC) Team helped find a New Market woman on Thursday. Sharon Looney, 71, who lives off Horseshoe Bend Road in New Market was reported missing on Wednesday afternoon.
According to neighbors, Looney was seen on the trail camera of a neighbor off Whaley Road at about 1:57 p.m. Two neighbors reportedly saw Looney walking alongside a road near her home at about 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Reportedly, Looney suffered from a medical condition that impaired her ability to return home safely. One relative posted on social media that she suffers from Lewy Body dementia.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) there were as many as 400 people searching for Looney Wednesday night and into Thursday.
Cocke County Emergency Management Agency Director Joe Esway reported that at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, with the approval of Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis, NRS’ SARSOC team was deployed to help for the search of the woman in Jefferson County.
