Dogwood Elementary’s Dolphins Belong initiative, led by school counselor Brandi Fitchpatric and ESL teacher Millicent Williams, has started educational activities for Black History Month. The goal is to create an inclusive community that values diversity and unity. The school has created a guide for teachers to lead discussions and activities about African American history and culture. This guide is used in daily school activities, such as morning announcements and various classes.

The initiative aims to educate students about African American history and its influence on society. It also encourages students to see themselves as potential agents of change. The Dolphins Belong initiative has successfully fostered a sense of belonging in the school community.

One unique feature of the Black History Month celebrations at Dogwood Elementary is the creation of lasting projects. For example, the fifth-grade Black History Quilt project encourages students to explore autobiographies, promoting pride and community.
