Dancers with the Oak Ridge Dance Team Training Association recently returned from the National Dance Team Competition in Orlando, Florida with several championship wins.
As a result, Oak Ridge City Council issued a proclamation Feb. 12 making that Monday officially Oak Ridge Dance Team Training Association Day in the city. The team’s seniors, along with their adult leaders, were present at the February meeting of city council to accept the proclamation, which was presented by the council’s newest member, Sean Gleason.
The association includes three dance teams with a total of 62 dancers, according to the proclamation. Each year the dancers perform at area middle school and high school basketball games.
But Feb. 2-4, they were in Orlando competing against other dance teams. A total of 365 teams across 33 states competed.
The Oak Ridge teams came home with several national championship wins in multiple categories, according to the resolution, including:
- Pom and Jazz by the senior team;
- Jazz by the junior team; and
- Pom by the youth team.
