UTPD officer goes back to school, earns degree at 46

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — If you have thought about going back to school to get your bachelor’s degree or maybe pursue your master’s or doctorate but aren’t sure if you can do it, then look no further than the University of Tennessee Police Department TPD Corporal Tim Cutwright for inspiration.

The Knoxville native recently graduated from South College with a degree in Criminal Justice. An accomplishment he reached while still working full-time with the U-T Police Department.

“I started looking at myself, just taking inventory of my life,” Cutwright told WATE. “The chief of patrol worked with me so they were all right there. They made sure I got to school. Made sure my grades were good. They knew where I was wanting to go with it. They knew I was looking at being a sergeant.”

Cutwright admits, while juggling the job and homework was tough at times, he felt the biggest obstacle standing in the way of getting his degree was the person he saw every morning in the mirror.
