One arrested after gunfire at Mead’s Quarry in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — No injuries were reported and one person was arrested after Knoxville Police officers responded to reports of gunfire outside a popular swimming spot on Sunday.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the Mead’s Quarry parking lot around 5:30 p.m.

Officers spotted a man armed with a handgun upon arrival. A police spokesperson said the suspect ran from the parking lot and discarded the gun. He was apprehended promptly and the firearm was recovered by responding officers.

Two people told investigators that the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Joseph Wools, shot at them after an argument. Nobody was struck by gunfire and no injuries were reported.

Wools faces two counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm while under the influence, public intoxication, and evading arrest.
