During the two day trial, prosecutors told the jury that on November 4, 2022, a Knoxville police officer responded to Tennova North Medical Center for an assault call. There, the victim told the officer that she was at her home off of Whittle Springs Road when Sanders got drunk and became angry with her for calling the police about a previous domestic disturbance in July, the DA’s office said.

According to the release, over the course of four hours, Sanders strangled the victim, punched her in the face, knocked her to the ground, and kicked her repeatedly. Eventually, the victim was able to text her sister who took her to the hospital, where she was treated for bruises all over her body.
