Coaches were apparently more impressed with Tennessee Vols’ win than media based on latest polls

The Tennessee Vols handled business as best as they possibly could on Saturday, thrashing the Chattanooga Mocs 69-3 inside Neyland Stadium.

Based on the new polls, that barely moved the needle with the AP Poll voters.  It did manage to get more traction with the coaches though.

The Vols rose from 15 up to 14 in the new AP Poll.

Despite winning by 66 points against one of the better FCS teams, the Vols saw a number of other lower-ranked teams jump over them after losses by FSU, Clemson, and LSU opened up room for teams to move up.  USC got the nod for its 27-20 win over LSU.  Miami also jumped the Vols after a 41-17 thrashing of the Florida Gators in Gainesville.

The coaches were a little bit more forgiving of the Vols playing an FCS school, moving Tennessee up to 12 from 15 last week.

The difference here is the coaches were less reactive to the Week 1 wins by USC and Miami, who they placed behind Tennessee at 14 and 15, respectively.

Yes, it’s Week Two, and the College Football Playoff poll isn’t even close to around the corner yet.  However, it’s still nice to know what those voting throughout the season think of the Vols.
