ESPN FPI Makes Its Opinion of Georgia Extremely Clear

The Georgia Bulldogs (3-0) had Saturday off to recharge before their Week 5 showdown with the Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0), which is shaping up to be the biggest game of the 2024 college football season.

Meanwhile, in Norman, the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers (4-0) showed they’re the real deal, defeating the No. 15 Oklahoma Sooners (3-1) with a 25-15 victory.

Despite Georgia being ranked No. 2 and the Vols No. 5 in the AP Top 25 going into the weekend, the Football Power Index (FPI), ESPN’s computer-generated college football ranking system, has a different outlook.

Following Week 4, UGA ranks one spot ahead of Tennessee, with the Dawgs checking in at No. 4 and the Vols taking No. 5 in the updated FPI. However, despite that, the software still thinks Tennessee has a higher chance of winning the College Football Playoff (CFP) national championship than Georgia does.

According to the FPI, Georgia has a 7.9 percent chance of winning the CFP, while Tennessee actually has a 9.3 percent chance.
