Free big band concert Saturday will feature Oak Ridge choruses in Sing & Swing

On Saturday, the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association (ORCMA) will present an afternoon of timeless tunes and vocal talent at Sing & Swing, featuring the Oak Ridge Chorus, Swing Time Big Band, and Oak Ridge High School Chorus.

The free outdoor concert will take place at 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Oak Ridge Civic Center band shell.

Local singers and musicians will highlight swing and jazz standards, including beloved hits like “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” “Boogie Woogie,” and more, celebrating the golden era of swing music with live harmonies and bold brass, a news release said.

It will also feature a new composition by local musician Wendel Werner.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating − and an umbrella just in case.

Food and drink will be available for purchase from Zeeke & Nells BBQ, Razzleberry’s Ice Cream Lab and SnoBiz SnoCones. Bring your umbrella in case it rains.

Celebrating its 80th season, the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association is committed to enriching the cultural life of the community through exceptional orchestral and choral performances. ORCMA provides a diverse range of musical experiences, from classical symphonies to community-based events.
