Oak Ridge firefighters rescue woman, pets after fire engulfs home

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) — An Oak Ridge woman and several pets were rescued from a house fire on Trenton Drive Tuesday morning.

The Oak Ridge Fire Department shared that crews responded to the home just before 10 a.m. Once there, they discovered a woman waving at them from an upstairs window. Firefighters were able to rescue the woman using a ladder.

ORFD said firefighters found the living room fully engulfed in fire. The flames were extinguished, and the woman, who suffered from mild smoke inhalation, was given medical aid. She was cleared at the scene by Anderson County EMS and did not need to be taken to the hospital, ORFD said.

Firefighters were also able to rescue three cats, two dogs, a bird and a snake from the home. The three cats and one of the dogs were in serious condition because of the smoke, ORFD said. Crews gave the animals lifesaving medical care, and all the animals were taken to an animal hospital with firefighters riding with them to provide care along the way.
