Police officers stop bank robbery ‘in progress’ in Sevierville

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.. (WATE) — A Sevierville man is facing charges after Sevierville police officers responded to a “bank robbery in progress” Tuesday afternoon.

According to a spokesperson for the City of Sevierville, officers responded to the reported robbery at Tennessee State Bank, located along Forks of the River Parkway, just before 4:50 p.m. Tuesday.

The city’s spokesperson stated officers found the robbery suspect leaving the bank with a bag of money. They identified the suspect as Joshua Watson, 35, of Sevierville, adding that he was immediately apprehended and taken into custody.

Watson is accused of entering the bank and demanding money from the teller, who complied.

Police investigate deadly shooting in Northwest Knoxville

Sevier County Jail records state that Watson is charged with robbery and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000 and that he is being held on a 20,000 bond.
