Disabled Knoxville woman allowed to move mailbox after delay in response

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A disabled Knoxville grandmother is wondering why it takes so long for the post office to grant an exemption to move a mailbox. She first requested the exemption in early summer and had been waiting for a response from the post office ever since. She received an answer in the last few days.

To request door delivery for letters and packages, you need to write a letter requesting the change and attach a statement from your doctor. The doctor’s statement should indicate you are unable to collect your mail from a curb or centralized mailbox. Once sent, you would think, a response from the post office might take several weeks, not several months.
