ATF to investigate after ‘device’ found under car in Tellico Plains

TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. (WATE) — An investigation is underway after the Knox County Bomb Squad responded to Tellico Plains on Sunday afternoon.

Monroe County deputies responded to a home in the 400 block of Shadden Road around 12:15 p.m. where a device was found underneath a car.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene around 1 p.m. and dismantled the device, according to MCSO Detective Conway Mason.

Two nearby residences were evacuated and a section of Shadden Road was closed while emergency personnel cleared the scene.

Mason said that a fire was reported at the residence earlier this week and that the two incidents could be connected. The incident has been referred to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
