Matt Ryerson, whose departure from the United Way of Greater Knoxville was announced Nov. 11, has been named the new president and CEO of the YMCA of East Tennessee .
Jim Dickerson, chair of the YMCA CEO Transition Committee, said in a news release Ryerson will start the role Jan. 1.
The YMCA chose Ryerson after a national search based on “his proven success in strategic leadership, community engagement and fundraising,” Dickerson said in the release.
Ryerson had been United Way CEO since December 2019, and has 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, including time with the YMCA earlier in his career, according to the release.
Current YMCA CEO Jim Dickson announced his retirement in August after 24 years in the role, during which time the Y has grown to serve 40,000 members with five facilities, 19 child care centers, 700 staffers and a $19 million annual budget.
