The “College GameDay” crew opened the show in Athens, Georgia, on Saturday ahead of the marquee night matchup between Georgia and Tennessee, in what might well be a must-win game for both teams. Georgia (7-2) is currently No. 12 in the College Football Playoff rankings, which would mean they’d be bumped for a conference champion.
As per usual, show centerpiece Pat McAfee led with a racous version of a Bulldogs chant, but first offered a bit of sympathy for the plight of Georgia, which had been the No. 1 team in the nation.
“What’s on the line today? Everything,” McAfee said. “You go from No. 1 to not even being in the 12-team playoff, you go from the Gator Bowl to the potential championship.”
McAfee then started in on the Georgia chant: “What’s that coming down the track?”
As he led two chants of, “Go Dawgs,” McAfee hopped on the “GameDay” desk and kept the crowd whipped up. But then McAfee got a bit too honest for the assembled crowd, with a warning about the Volunteers, who are 8-1 under coach Josh Heupel.
