KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A pedestrian was hit and killed in a crash on I-40 East at Papermill Drive, Sunday evening, Knoxville Police reported. The road reopened around 10:30.
A pedestrian was hit and killed in the crash, Knoxville Police reported at 10:16 p.m. This resulted in all lanes being closed as KPD crash reconstruction investigators and crime scene technicians examine the scene, KPD said.

On Sunday at 8:31 p.m., Knoxville Fire reported a “significant” crash on I-40 East at Papermill Drive, at mile marker 383.

Knoxville Fire suggested drivers should consider alternate routes such as Kingston Pike or Middlebrook. As of 10:25 p.m., the TDOT SmartWay map showed that eastbound traffic was backed up past Montvue Road.
