KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A 16-year-old died after a crash near Hardin Valley Road Friday evening.
According to a preliminary crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of S.R. 131/ Ball Camp Byington Road and Hardin Valley Road.

The report states that a 2015 Acura was travelling north on S.R. 131 while attempting to pass another vehicle travelling northbound.
After entering the intersection to continue straight onto Hardin Valley Road, the Acura veered off the roadway to the right and struck a traffic signal post, the report explains. The Acura then came to a rest at the right edge of the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 16-year-old, was killed in the crash. The report states the teen was not wearing a seat belt.
