PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Tennessee Highway Patrol strike team and National Park Service rangers completed a challenging overnight rescue in the Great Smoky Mountains, carrying an injured hiker to safety through steep, rain-soaked terrain.
Authorities said the woman suffered a fractured leg while hiking in a remote area of the park early Thursday. Two EMT-certified park rangers reached her location and stayed overnight to stabilize her condition.
