KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Daniel Arwood’s first-degree murder trial began in Knox County Criminal Court on Monday.
The 38-year-old is accused of shooting and killing his former boss, 29-year-old Aaron Russell, in February 2024. He pleaded not guilty to his charge of first-degree murder.
Russell owned a bus line and worked as a school bus driver. The shooting happened at the automotive center where the buses were held. According to police, Arwood had been using a room at the center as a residence. He had been fired by Russell the week prior, and was due to leave the day of the shooting.

Police said that around 5:47 a.m., Roger Holt, another employee of Russell’s, sawRussell and Arwood talking in the parking lot.
