Data shows 10% of new dads get postpartum depression, new program offers support

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Having a baby affects everyone in the family, including fathers. Postpartum Support International says one in five moms and one in 10 dads experience postpartum depression.

Dr. Julia Wood is a psychiatrist in Knoxville. She said it’s common for new dads to have concerns after getting back from the hospital.

“You’ve got dads who bring home babies from the neonatal intensive care unit. These tiny, tiny babies and they feel so nervous, you know. ‘What if, What if I hurt my baby? How do I feed my baby? How do I hold my baby?’” Wood said…
