Father speaks after new law honoring daughter fatally stabbed in Powell goes into effect

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A new law in honor of a Powell teen recently went into effect, boosting funding for child advocacy centers and increasing base salaries for their staff.

Coined the “Savannah Grace Copeland Act,” the new law will provide over $4 million annually to child advocacy centers that offer critical services to child victims of abuse and neglect across the state. The law is named in honor of Savannah Copeland, a 13-year-old Powell girl who died in October 2024 after being stabbed to death by a 15-year-old acquaintance.
