Significant drop in fatal crashes reported in Tennessee over Fourth of July weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol on Monday reported a notable drop in fatal crashes over the 2025 Fourth of July holiday period compared to 2024, while the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to only five injury crashes over 84 hours.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to 22 total crashes, including five with injury, from 6 p.m. on July 3 to 6 a.m. on July 7. Deputies responded to zero fatal crashes and zero crashes involving alcohol, according to preliminary data released Monday.

Seven driving under-the-influence arrests were made by the sheriff’s office during that period, along with 76 other arrests. A total of 352 citations were issued.

On the state level, the Tennessee Highway Patrol reported a significant drop in traffic fatalities during the holiday period. Four people were killed in crashes statewide, down from 18 during the same time frame in 2024. THP troopers responded to a total of 132 crashes and made 99 DUI arrests…
