Knoxvillians praise plan to ease Middlebrook Pike traffic with high-tech system

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — On Tuesday, the Knoxville City Council approved plans to move forward with three major engineering projects, including one aimed at improving traffic flow along one of the city’s busiest roadways.

The Middlebrook Pike Advanced Traffic Management System project is the first of its kind in Knoxville. It will allow for real-time adjustments to traffic signals, helping to facilitate traffic and improve the overall flow.

Middlebrook Pike is one of Knoxville’s busiest roadways, with constant traffic throughout the week. Now, a $3.9 million advanced traffic management system aims to ease that congestion. It will connect 23 signalized intersections along Middlebrook Pike and University Avenue.
