Sevierville Fire Department rescues campers left stranded by flash flooding

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Sevierville Fire Department rescued campers who had become stranded by the Little Pigeon River, SFD said.

Over the weekend, pop-up storms caused flash flooding in the mountains, resulting in water levels rising downstream. This trapped a group of campers on an island in the Little Pigeon River, SFD said.

Crews arrived on the scene then rescued the campers within about 30 minutes.

“SFD firefighters are trained and equipped in swiftwater rescue for specific scenarios such as this,” the department said. “We remind our community to please be weather aware when doing any outdoor activities especially if it involves our waterways in the area!”…
