New Era for Tennessee Energy: NRC Reviews TVA’s Plan for Next-Gen Nuclear Reactor

OAKRIDGE, Tenn. (WZTV) – The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has accepted the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) application to build a small modular reactor (SMR) At its Clinch River site near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This marks the first time a utility-led construction permit for the GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 SMR design has undergone NRC review – a significant step for advancement of nuclear energy in the U.S.

The BRX- 300 is the only boiling water SMR design under development in the country. It has a 300-megawatt capacity designed to offer a more efficient alternative to traditional reactors.
