Knoxville co-response team wants to expand due to high need for services

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville’s co-response team is working towards finding solutions for people in crisis, not arresting them. Since 2020, Knoxville Police and the Helen Ross McNabb Center have been working in tandem to respond to calls of people struggling with their mental health and substance abuse.

There are six co-response teams comprised of a KPD officer with Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) and a master’s level clinician with the McNabb Center responding to calls assigned to them.
