Gatlinburg Parkway reopened after police investigation

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) — The Gatlinburg Parkway has reopened after it was briefly closed while police investigated a safety concern that was reported Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Gatlinburg Police Department, the 800 block of the parkway, between Airport Road and Maples Lane, was temporarily closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic as the investigation took place. Just after 6:30 p.m., GPD said the road was reopened, after officers determined there was no credible threat and the area was safe.

Around 6 p.m., Gatlinburg Police said a potential safety concern was reported by a child and their guardians, which prompted the coordinated response from local emergency services.
