Rural Metro responds to gas leak after digging crew hits line

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Homes in part of a neighborhood near Knox County were evacuated Thursday afternoon, as firefighters responded after a digging crew struck a gas line.

According to the Rural Metro Fire Department, crews responded to the area of Dogwood Drive after a 3-inch gas line was struck by a digging crew. Because of the leak, homes within 300 feet of the leak were evacuated.

The fire department added that KCSO was requested to help convince one homeowner, who refused to evacuate the area, to leave until the leak was stopped.

The Knoxville Utilities Board was able to stop the leak, and they are working to check the nearby affected homes. Residents are being allowed to return to their homes, Rural Metro said…
