A tragic incident occurred Tuesday on Interstate 40 in Loudon County when a 17-year-old driver died in a multi-vehicle collision, as reported by WVLT. The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary findings indicate that the crash happened near mile marker 365 at around 2:40 p.m., resulting from a tractor-trailer having to halt due to road maintenance congestion; the subsequent chain-reaction involved a Geo Tracker and a Mercedes GLC 300.
The young driver of the Geo Tracker, who was not named because of their age, was in the process of decelerating behind the stopped semi when the Mercedes, driven by 32-year-old Ashley Jones, collided with the teen’s vehicle, according to details from a WBIR report, however, “THP said the teen was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the crash,” adding another layer of tragedy to the incident.
