KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — UUNIK Academy held its sixth annual Grooves in the Garden music festival Saturday afternoon to raise funds.

The event, held at the Knoxville Botanical Gardens, featured a live band, a DJ, local food trucks and more. Participants wore all white summer outfits to fit the theme of “All White Affair.”

Reggie Jenkins, executive director of UUNIK Academy, said that his nonprofit is “dedicated to African American youth here in Knoxville.” Founded in 2003, it has worked with over 5,000 young people, Jenkins explained.

Jenkins said this annual event would help raise money to create endowments for inner city youth to participate in the nonprofit’s education and empowerment programs STEAMI Summer Institute and STEAMI Learning Institute, a full-time academic institution.

“This is probably our best year,” Jenkins said. Learn more on UUNIK Academy’s website…
