Man charged with kidnapping three in Blount County

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A man faces charges after the Madisonville Police Department said he stole a vehicle with three people inside in Blount County.

Around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, the Madisonville Police Department, which is in Monroe County, responded to a call about a kidnapping incident in Blount County, it said. Police said that Robert Cody Martin stole a vehicle with three people inside while the owner was working on the car at a business off of Highway 411.

21-year-old charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication in Knoxville

MPD officers spotted the vehicle driving at high speeds on Highway 411 near the Checkered Flag Market. After a brief chase, they caught Martin who resisted arrest but was taken into custody, MPD wrote. The three victims were safe and didn’t need medical attention.

Martin faces charges including kidnapping, felony evading arrest and resisting arrest, MPD wrote. Police said he has a “significant felony criminal history.” He is being held without bail at the Monroe County Justice Center.
