YMCA of East Tennessee delivers more than 90,000 meals to children in rural communities during summer program

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The YMCA of East Tennessee is wrapping up its Summer Food Program, saying it delivered tens of thousands of meals this year to kids in rural communities.

In all, the YMCA said it has delivered more than 90,000 meals so far to kids in Luttrell, Washburn and Rutledge to help battle food insecurity in the region’s underserved rural areas.

“During the summer months, food insecurity increases as families who typically rely on school breakfast and lunch must now fill the gap. The YMCA of East Tennessee stepped in, providing free meals – 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 14 cartons of milk – each week throughout the summer to any families with children 18 or younger,” YMCA said…
