KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A group of Knoxville city leaders, gun violence reduction advocates and neighbors held a meet and greet for the members of Knoxville Peace on Wednesday evening.
The five-member team, consisting of one program manager, one senior violence interventionist, and three “intensive life” coaches, are the Knoxville-based team of the California-based National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform, which took control of a city-sponsored gun violence reduction program from local group Turn Up Knox earlier this year.
“We are focusing on those who are at the highest risk, and the data is showing that the age is 26-35,” said Mickeeya Murray Harrison, program manager of Knoxville Peace. “We’re waiting on data that is coming out in August that will identify if we’re still on trend with focusing on this particular age group.”…
