Legal Aid of East Tennessee sees challenges with less funding, still committed to helping families

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A group offering free legal services to people in need said fewer people will now see that help.

Legal Aid of East Tennessee offers free legal services for low-income people who qualify. Housing is a top area of practice, especially their Eviction Prevention Program.

“We basically take cases that are primarily landlord-tenant cases here in Knox County. And our main goal, of course, is to prevent evictions, and that usually consists of preventing eviction judgments against people,” said Michael Davis, the managing attorney of the program…
