17-year-old charged with attempted murder after shooting injures two in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A 17-year-old has been charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder after two people were injured in a shooting Tuesday night, the Knoxville Police Department said.

Around 9 p.m. Tuesday, KDP officers went to an apartment on Minnesota Avenue in the Lonsdale Homes community. Inside, they found two minors who had been shot. Both were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, one in critical condition, the other in stable condition with suspected non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing a black SUV drive by the apartment with someone shooting from the vehicle. Police reviewed surveillance camera video which confirmed this and allowed them to identify the vehicle, KPD said.

Officers went to the registered address for the SUV. They found it along with a 17-year-old who was identified as the driver during the shooting. He was detained, questioned and charged via juvenile petitions.
