Knoxville K-9 in Texas searching for final child missing from Camp Mystic after floods

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville Police K-9 that assisted in search and recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene and her handler are helping search for the final child missing from Camp Mystic following the July 4 flooding in Texas.

Friday morning, Knoxville Police shared that K-9 Pearl and her handler, Candy Stooksbury, who are both on KPD’s Search and Rescue team, were in Texas searching for 8-year-old Cile Steward. KPD said Steward is the last remaining child missing from Camp Mystic following the July 4 weekend flooding.

In the early morning hours of the Fourth of July, flash flooding along the Guadalupe River left devastation in Kerr County, Texas. Reports have stated that more than 100 people were killed in the flooding.

Following the flooding, the Associated Press reported that more than 20 girls who were at Camp Mystic were missing. Approximately 750 girls were attending the riverside Christian camp in Hunt, Texas, when the flood happened, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said.
