More than 20 people rappel off side of Gatlinburg hotel to raise money for river cleanup

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — A total of 21 people rappelled off the side of a Gatlinburg hotel on Saturday to help raise money for river cleanup.

Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful paired up with Over the Edge, an international urban rappelling company for the event, where volunteers were strapped into gear and had to descend 200 feet from the roof of the Park Vista hotel in Gatlinburg to the ground.

“It was a day of inspiration, from the surrounding beauty as we rappelled, to the proud, exhilarated faces of our rappelers when they reached the bottom, to the cheers and support from partners and onlookers,” Keep The Tennessee River Beautiful Executive Director Gibi said in a release. “It was surreal to experience this special and new form of energy and momentum for the Tennessee River and its supporters!”…
