KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knox County Schools are feeling the impacts of a nationwide bus driver shortage, with the district still needing 15 more drivers in 2025.
KCS said it has been making progress on the staffing issue, seeing the need decrease year over year. The district needed 20 in 2024 and 31 in 2023. In 2022, the district saw a shortage of 50 drivers.
In total, the district has around 460 bus drivers who are responsible for taking a third of its students to and from school. The district is currently using smaller buses to service routes that need larger buses, with the 15 drivers needed for those positions…
