Motorcyclist killed in crash that shut down I-40 in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — One person has died following a major crash that shut down Interstate 40 in Knoxville for several hours.

Officers responded to I-40 E near mile marker 385 around 8 p.m. for a motorcycle crash. One female motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity is being withheld at this time.

According to the preliminary investigation, the motorcycle left the road and collided with a railway. What caused the bike to go off the roadway remains under investigation.
