Teen missing from Illinois found safe at Knox County apartment

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A 13-year-old girl who was missing from the Chicago Heights area of Illinois has been found safe in Knox County after she was reported missing, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Wednesday, detectives with KCSO’s Narcotics & Retail Crimes Unit received information from the Chicago Heights Police Department about the teen who was missing and believed to be kidnapped in the Knoxville area.

Detectives began investigating and determined that the teen was in Knoxville. KCSO said she was found safe inside an apartment on W. Parkway Avenue with a boy, whose age was not released, and a woman. The boy was arrested and charged with harboring a runaway.

“Our priority will always be protecting children. I’m proud of the fast work of our detectives and grateful for the collaboration that brought this young girl home safely,” Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler said.
