Man charged after gate destroyed at Augusta Quarry, causing $20K damage

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A man has been accused of destroying the gate at Augusta Quarry just a month-and-a-half after it reopened with $11 million in improvements, court records showed.

A general sessions docket stated a witness told officers that on Sunday night that a man, later identified as Christyan Thompson, was parked at the quarry after the gate had been closed and locked for the night. Thompson allegedly got in his car and rammed the gate from the inside several times until it was bent enough for him to leave, the witness told police.

According to the docket, the witness recorded videos of Thompson ramming the gate as well as a video of Thompson admitting to ramming it.

On Monday morning, an officer investigated the incident and found that Thompson had been arrested on unrelated charges a few hours after the gate was damaged. He faces charges including vandalism, driving while license revoked due to DUI conviction, and violating financial responsibility law.
