PBS, UT Medical Center launch new health-focused show

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The East Tennessee Public Broadcasting Service is partnering with the University of Tennessee Medical Center to launch a new show focused on health, wellness and disease prevention.

Hosted by Dr. Jay Crook, each episode of “Health Matters with Dr. Jay Crook,” will feature conversations with physicians and clinical experts from across the East Tennessee community on the health topics that matter most in the region — from chronic conditions and preventative screenings to innovations in care and wellness tips you can apply at home.

In addition to serving as the Senior Vice President Physician Enterprise and Chief Medical Officer at UT Medical Center, Crook is also a cardiologist who practiced law for three years before entering medical school. He has been with UT Medical Center since 2009 and transitioned in 2022 to an administrative role within the hospital system.

“We know that many people have questions about their health but don’t always know where to turn for answers,” said Dr. Crook. “Health Matters is our way of making expert insight more accessible—and more human—for our friends and neighbors.”

“Health Matters with Dr. Jay Crook,” is slated to be a 30-minute show premiering at 5 p.m. August 30 on East Tennessee PBS. Episodes will also be available to stream online through www.easttennesseepbs.org, UT Medical Center said.
